Caring for our elderly – supporting staff who are Carers

Recent studies have shown that the number of New Zealanders over the age of 80 is expected to increase eightfold by 2050, making them the fastest growing sector of the population.

To support the well-being of this growing group, as well as their Carers, Professor Ngaire Kerse (head of the School of Population Health) will lead a staff seminar on eldercare.

During the seminar, Ngaire will draw on current research and offer practical tips and strategies to ensure our elderly relatives or dependents are healthy, independent and well cared for.

Topics will include:

  • Healthy aging
  • Memory problems
  • Depression and suicide prevention
  • How to avoid hospital admission

Director – Staff Equity, Prue Toft, will also provide an overview of how the University supports staff who are Carers.

Spaces are limited, so please visit the website to RSVP.

The Eldercare seminar supports the University's commitment to being safe, inclusive and equitable. If you have any questions about the event, please contact the Equity Office.
