10 August 2018

Department of Statistics academic, Professor James Curran, has become a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA).

James, whose main interest is statistical problems in forensic science, has worked with forensic agencies in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, producing and maintaining expert systems software for the interpretation of evidence. His experience as an expert witness for DNA and glass evidence sees James appear in courts in the United States and Australia.

The Fellowship is a significant honour for James that recognises his years of service by his peers in statistical science.

“I am honoured by the recognition given to me by the ASA. Like any academic achievement, I could not have got there without the support of academic peers, friends and family, and for this I am extremely grateful,” says James.
