Antarctica New Zealand Scholarships

Antarctica New Zealand is offering two postgraduate scholarships for 2017/18.

Applications are now open for the following 2017/18 scholarships:

Antarctica New Zealand Sir Robin Irvine Scholarship

This doctoral scholarship honours the late Sir Robin Irvine. Sir Robin chaired the Board during the establishment of the New Zealand Antarctic Institute (Antarctica New Zealand), and worked tirelessly to achieve the vision of facilitating science that makes a difference on the continent.

  • For Doctoral research
  • Award of $20,000 per annum over two years (total of $40,000)
  • Logistics support for two seasons in Antarctica (if required)


New Zealand Post Antarctic Scholarship

New Zealand's presence in Antarctica is important to our nation and something that New Zealand Post has been actively involved in since 1957. Supporting up-and-coming New Zealand scientists through this scholarship is a key way that New Zealand Post continues its close association with the white continent.  

  • For masters or doctoral research
  • Award of $10,000 over one year
  • Logistics support for one season in Antarctica (if required)


The application deadline is Thursday 30 March, 2017 at 5pm.
