Faculty of Science Initiative for Complex Biological Systems

The quantitative investigation of complex biological systems is a rapidly growing area of research, driven by the availability of ever more powerful analytical and computational tools, and by an increasing awareness of the contribution of emergent properties to the behaviour of whole systems.

Achieving deeper, non-reductive understandings of systems is emerging as a central target across all areas of biology and medicine, and one with far-reaching implications for agriculture, health, energy production, environmental protection, and many other human activities.

The Initiative for Complex Biological Systems (ICBS) aims to foster interdisciplinary and inter-faculty research at The University of Auckland in this vital area.

  • Funding opportunities

Seed funding is available for new projects or collaborations in Systems Biology. Applications can be made at any time, and funding decisions are made four times a year. The next funding decision will be made on 25 October, 2013.

  • ICBS Advisory Group

The ICBS is overseen by an interdisciplinary advisory group, with expertise across a broad range of computational and theoretical research in biological systems.

  • Sign up to our mailing list

Funding opportunities and announcements of events are advertised through our mailing list, as well as on this web page. All interested people are encouraged to sign up.

Upcoming events will be posted here regularly so please check back from time to time.
