Virtual Incredible Science (www.incrediblescience.co.nz)

We are delighted to announce that Virtual Incredible Science (www.incrediblescience.co.nz), our open online resource, is being revamped and is returning for July 2017. Aimed at primary and intermediate aged children, is a virtual learning experience including interactive games, designed to encourage students to discover the magic of science.

This is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn about the wonder and diversity of science. With activities ranging from encryption tools, to muscles and bones and facts about light, we believe it’s also a valuable resource for teachers to use in the classroom.

Incredible Science (physical day for schools)

After a two year hiatus we are happy to announce that Incredible Science will be back in July 2017. Our scientists are planning an exciting, educational and fun filled day for intermediate students in Years 7 and 8. We’ll have the magic of chemistry, the marvels of physics and the beauty of mathematical shapes and patterns. We’ll have cool rocks and fossils, we’ll talk about the ocean and the creatures who live there. Enter the dark room to see and learn about fluorescent proteins. Meet a robot and be amazed by the displays of our computer scientists.

Schools in Auckland have been invited via email to this event and the majority of emails in our database are generic 'office@schoolname.school.nz'. If you are a teacher and would like to be contacted directly please email us.

Due to an overwhelming response from schools all over Auckland, Incredible Science 2017 is already fully booked.

If you are a teacher and would like to be added to our mailing list for next year please email your school name and email address to incrediblescience@auckland.ac.nz

Students attending the Incredible Science 2017 physical day are encouraged to enter the School of Biological Sciences Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) to be in with a chance of winning an awesome jellyfish t-shirt or UV blacklight torch.

To enter students need to:

  1. Take an entry home from the day and fold a paper GFP model using the instructions included.
  2. Once folded, photograph their model and email it to incrediblescience@auckland.ac.nz as your competition entry. We would really like it if students decorated their models or photograph them creatively or in an interesting location – we will post all entries below. We will only include the student's first name on the website and no other details.
  3. Make sure they have parent or guardian permission to enter.
Competition deadline: 5pm at Wednesday 12 July 2017.
