Faculty of Science – Leading creativity and innovation in the sciences

Faculty of Science Orientation 2012

The Faculty of Science will be hosting its very own orientation for new students on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th February.

This event will be run as two full-day sessions containing the same content, so please attend only one of these sessions. The day on which you should attend will be dependent on your major/s so please see the details at the bottom of the page to find out which day applies to you.

At the Science Orientation you’ll gain basic skills in taking lecture notes, time management and balancing your academic and social life, you’ll hear from some of our very own science students about the challenges they’ve faced at university and how they overcame these, go on a tour of the science block and other important parts of the campus, and you’ll visit the department of your major to meet some of the staff. The day will provide plenty of opportunity to network with other new students and gain some familiarity with the city campus.

The Science Orientation event will be run in conjunction with other Orientation Week events taking place at this University between Tuesday 21 and Friday 24 February. We encourage you to attend the university-wide events as well as the Science Orientation. Students should expect to spend at least three days on campus to get the most from what’s on offer. Orientation week is designed to help you succeed at university and to make your first week, semester and year run a lot smoother, so we encourage you to attend as much of it as you can!

What if I haven’t decided on my major yet or am planning on doing a double major?

You only need to attend the Science Orientation on one day, as the information presented will be the same for all students; only the departmental functions from 3pm onwards will be different.

If you wish to attend more than one function you are free to do so, and if the departments you wish to visit cross over both days you are welcome to go to the 3pm function on both days, but you do not need to attend the orientation twice.
