Faculty of Science – Leading creativity and innovation in the sciences
Facilities and resources
As New Zealand's leading and most diverse Science faculty, we offer outstanding opportunities for postgraduate study and research.
We are committed to building on our high international standing in research. All our departments are engaged in original fundamental and applied research, and many of our research groups are making important contributions to international developments in the fields of both single discipline and interdisciplinary areas of science and technology.
Within the faculty there is considerable scope for interdisciplinary research which is strongly encouraged and facilitated by a number of inter-faculty research institutes and national centres of excellence.
Our academic staff are among the most distinguished research scientists in their fields in New Zealand and are internationally recognised for their work. Many are well networked with colleagues in leading universities and research institutes in Australia, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Asia and North America.
Check out some staff profiles in Geography, Geology, the Life Sciences, and Environmental, Physical and Chemical, Human, and Mathematical and Computational Sciences.
We offer postgraduate students some unique study facilities such as the Leigh Marine Laboratory and reserve, a vineyard on Waiheke, our Optometry clinics, the UniSports Centre and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre.
Access to other research facilities and equipment, all of which are at a level consistent with the high international standing of The University of Auckland, is available throughout the various departments within the Faculty of Science.
A strong support network exists for postgraduate Science students. Each student receives one-on-one advice and guidance from a superviser throughout their degree. Study facilities, laboratory space and access to laboratory equipment, library facilities and photocopying and secretarial services are available to all postgraduate students.
