Programme overview

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) (BSc(Hons)) degree involves one year of full-time study, or two years part-time study, after you have completed the requirements for the BSc. It generally involves completion of master's level courses and the submission of an honours dissertation.

After graduating with your BSc(Hons), it is possible to progress to a master's degree (MSc). Students gaining First or Second Class First Division Honours may be eligible for direct entry to a doctorate (PhD).

Programme structure

Depending on the subject major or specialisation being taken, a BSc(Hons) degree may involve:

  • 120 points in one of the subjects listed in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) schedule
  • A project or dissertation of up to 60 points

Entry requirements

Admission to the BSc(Hons) requires:

  • Completion of the requirements for the BSc or equivalent.
  • At least a B average in 6 courses (90 points) above Stage II, 3 courses (45 points) of which must be in a major or specialisation.
  • Approval from the relevant head of department, director of school, or equivalent.
