- THz Spectroscopy
My current research interest is focussed on THz micro resonators. We are using different configurations to utilise whispering gallery modes (WGMs) to achieve ultra-high quality (Q) factors for our resonators. Some of the resonators are also tailored towards sensing applications, i.e. we want to use the evanescent field of the resonator for e.g. gas sensing. - We have a frequenct-domain THz spectrometer that covers the range from 0.1 THz to 1.0 THz with a frequency resolution of 4 MHz. This instrument allows us to measure resonators with quality factors of about 50,000, with our current (world) record of 15,000. We also have a time-domain THz spectrometer that covers the frequency range from 0.3 THz to 1.5 THz. This system is very useful in characterising some of the 'optical' components we use, like waveguides and lenses.
